Looking for a Winter beater and ran across this. I thought someone here might be interested. http://tinyurl.com/pqx7h6d

Don't see many with the 5-speed, and with under 100k miles. It's pretty tempting, but I'd end up parting it out to put the drivetrain in my Fiero. I can get a drivetrain cheaper than that.

Tell me you're kidding. I'd love to have that to drive although I'd rather have a slush box.

Sheet, I'd trade my Fiero for that! Helluva lot faster, back seat, easier to get in and out of....

If the timing belt hasn't been changed, its a hand grenade with the pin pulled. I wouldn't even start it before changing the belt.

Nope. That engine and transmission combo are rare and would be a great swap into a Fiero. It would be a waste of that car to part it out to do that, which is why I wouldn't want to buy it.

Whew. You've redeemed yourself, my friend.
EDIT: That car is just an hour and a half away from me. If they'd trade me even up for my Fiero and they changed the timing belt, I'd consider it. I might have to give them a call in the morning.[This message has been edited by Monkeyman (edited 07-10-2015).]

It's a '92 so it's a non-interference engine. It's also very easy to pull off the inspection covers and check the belt condition. It's probably due for a change, but it's really not as big of a deal as some people make it out to be. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it at all.
I used to own a '91 GTP 5 speed that was almost identical to this one. Sure miss that car!

Never noticed that engine in the 90's and now too late for a long block crate? For fun I recently looked around for 5 speed donor cars. Only one in Fla. A couple autos, 2 near me ,but at $3k asking price, not so interesting. That would be my choice for Fiero transplant. BTW those Getrags are scarce and salvage units $600.
Edit, I thought I read the valves are only .010" apart explaining the grenade fear??[This message has been edited by hobbywrench (edited 02-28-2016).]

Daaaamn.... That car looks clean! Way too nice to part out. If I were going to buy it, I'd keep it and drive it.

Holy crap that's a rare car!
Those engines were a major POS but I'd love to have that in the stable.
As rare as they are I have seen a few and every one I've seen had the DOHC engine so I don't know if you could have got one with a "good" engine.
