The wife is looking for a new car. A new 2015 Sonata Hybrid or a 2015 Altima SL 2.5 . What are your opinions ? Pros and cons ?
Thanks Rick

I'd go Nissan over a Hyundai anytime. I've heard too many horror stories on Hyundais and Kias and they depreciate at a greater rate to boot.

took a Hyundai from sacramento to sandiego 14 gallons of gas over the grapevine and still got over 45mpg. pretty impressive.

At autocross last weekend, I was out on the track chasing cones and I had to radio in that one of the cars had knocked over a cone. I reported it as "the silver car, whatever it is". The guy at the timing desk radioed back... "It's an Altima! You don't know what it is? They've only sold about two billion of them!"

Anyway, it might be a nice family car, but I was unimpressed with what I saw.

I drove a 2013 Altima S for 2 years as my company car and liked it. It's a boring people mover, but is a competent at doing so. It's quiet, spacious, peppy and gets great mileage too. The downside is you can't spit without hitting one....they're pretty ubiquitous.

I put 45K miles on mine before I turned it in and in that time only had oil changes and tire rotations......no mechanical issues at all. It was as reliable a car as I have owned.

The one big downside, at least for me, is the CVT transmission. It takes some getting used to and I have my doubts about its longevity. In normal driving situations though I had no issues with it, but if you try to shift it from reverse to drive in a hurry it confuses the car and you just sit there in drive with your foot on the gas going nowhere. I learned to just drive it like a little old man and in that vein it is a great car. I got over 40 MPG on several tanks, but 35-36MPG average was more typical. It has an 18 or 19 gallon tank, so the range is incredible. I went 730 miles on a single tank once.....it was crazy.

I have no experience with the Hyundai, so I can't help you there. I can say that if I were in the market for a 4-door sedan I would buy an Altima in a heartbeat.
