I just scored a pristine one owner 1986 Olds Cutlass with 75K miles for chump change. It appears to have a 2.8 V6 with a two barrel carburetor. Didn't the 1986 Fiero GT have a 2.8 with multi port fuel injection like my '87s had? Is this the same engine we're all familiar with except for that?

Duh. I just answered my own question by looking at the "owners manual."
X code = 2.8, 2bbl carb. W code = 2.8 mpi. The car was also available with a 2.5 four and a 3.8 V6 (I wish).

Can't believe I just saw this. The 2.8 will be similar, but the carbed version probably has the small valve heads. The good news is that a 3.4 will bolt right in. The GM HT 3.4 crate motor (that people were swapping into Fieros, when it was available) was designed as a drop in replacement for the carbed 2.8 in an S10. It (as well as the camarobird 3.4) should work just fine in yours. You won't even have to move the starter.
