Hi guys, I've had a problem come up with my other car, a '91 Toyota Previa van. It died at a red light recently, would not start since and I had to have it towed. It will crank over but will not actually start. I believe I've narowed it down to an electrical problem with the computer, but am not certain. Here's what I've tried:
-Sprayed starting fluid in intake while cranking, no start. Should rule out a fuel issue. -Checked for spark. No spark. > Checked distributor, good. -Tested Ignition coil, has proper resistance. Good. -Checked for 12 volts going to coil, there is power. Good. -Spark plugs gapped properly, new wires. All good. -Timing chain is good, not broken. -Checked for power to ECM. There is 12 volts, good.
However, no check engine light lights up when key is turned to ON. It always did before. Someone told me this indicates the ECU is not getting power, but I got 12 volts on the power wire to it. Could the ECU be bad?------------------ My Fiero: 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT, V6, 4-speed manual

I am not all that familiar with pre OBDII Toyotas, but your logic seems sound. The CEL should definitely illuminate when the key is turned on, so I would agree the ECM is suspect. Are you getting injector pulses from the ECM when you crank it?

It turned out to be the air flow meter sensor on the airbox. Bad connection! ------------------ My Fiero: 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT, V6, 4-speed manual

Good to know - with the MAF plugged back in, does the CEL work again?
