Just read about the new Ford Focus RS. Some raves. But the thing is 3500 lbs. They need to prune at least 300 lbs off it. Not bad looking if you like the rallye sport profile. And I wonder how that engine will hold up with the turbo screw turned up to (must be ) 15 lbs? Also has lag so get on the throttle before you exit that turn or fall into a hole.

It's high for a stock boost level yes, but also intercooled, direct injection, and a good factory tune. It's no 400k mile engine but it will last a lot longer than most aftermarket setups running that kind of power. A lot of the newer true hot hatches are running high boost (15-18lb) setups from the factory and the technology is there to make them last. Just don't expect mileage since they're tuned rich from the factory to be safe.
Also drive one, despite being FWD they are a KICK to drive; it's on my shortlist of things to consider if my DD got totalled[This message has been edited by Pancake (edited 04-13-2016).]

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any modern turbo running much less than 15psi. That's pretty much been normal for 15 or so years. Everything from a '98 Volvo to a 2016 Buick runs that.

the RS is AWD, imagine trying to put 350hp to the front...

I was talking to a dealer at a show today about the Alfa 4C. It runs at 28 pounds of boost on that little 1.7l. Now that seems crazy-high to me; seems like the motor didn't come out of engineering with the output they wanted (or the car came in heavy), so they just jacked up the boost to get the numbers half-decent (4.2 0-60 for a $70,000 car).
