well since my fiero is working I figured it was time to mess with this car again, new engine was put In (swapped a 3800 for a 3800) there were a few differences but I'm not sure if it matters to the issue at hand the car will only stay running with the ignition held to start and that's bad any ideas?

Fuel? I believe the cold start injector is run on the starting circuit. Check your injectors and see if they are working.

With the ignition in Start, doesn't that mean the starter motor is actually keeping the engine running?

I believe so, there is a sweet spot where it doesn't though. not exactly a fun though there is a recall on the ignition switch that I'm not sure if it was done or not yet

I don't believe the 3800 has a cold start injector dor 1997 onwards, this one does not for sure

update: might be ignition related since adding more fuel does not help
