The transmission in my Grand Prix GT died this morning. No 3rd or OD gears and to get into gear at all the shifter has to go all the way to 1 and then gently shifted into 2nd after the car is moving. Shifting into 3rd or drive causes the car to, essentially, shift into neutral and applying the throttle only revs the engine. I have a 45 mile drive to work each way so the car is done for unless I get the transmission rebuilt or get a new one. to that end I'm looking to buy a replacement tranny as it will be faster and cheaper than getting this one rebuilt. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it does need to have all gears working and I would like for it to last long enough for me to get the one currently in the car rebuilt. Right now, I'm supporting my family paycheck-to-paycheck so I don't have a lot of money, but I may have some stuff for barter(Some Fiero parts[both doors, hood and decklid], even) if anyone is interested.

Did it fail gradually or all of the sudden? Are you certain that it's not electrical? I'm no expert, but I would be inclined to investigate that possibility.

It was a gradual decline. It's been throwing a long shift code for about 2 months and then 3 weeks ago I completely lost OD. On Sunday 3rd went and it won't go into gear at all unless you drop the gear shift all the way to 1st and then it slips like I'm on ice. I've had 3 different trans shops tell me the long shift code is because the valve body needs rebuilt and that the loss of OD and 3rd is because of clutch failures.

Okay. Obviously, you've got a good grip on what's happening.
Good luck with your search.
