Any interest in a 4 channel-4 track simul-sinc reel to reel Teac tape deck?

Bought new back in about 1980. Has less than 100 hours on it. Hasn't been used in over two decades, but has been stored properly indoors in controlled enviornment.

PM or email if anybody interested.

How much do you want for it? I think I still have some of my Grandpas sermons on reels. If so, I'd kind of like to digitize them (put them on the computer/CDs/thumb drives/etc).

I don't want to "give" it away, that's why I've been hanging on to it all these years. It went for about $1500 new. I see them selling on ebay for around $800.

If you just want something you can play reels on, you don't need anything as fancy as a 3440. It is designed for recording with overdubbing capacity. Waaaay back when, (you know...the "good ole' days" ) there were studios that used to use these machines (the 3440) for final mix down into stereo from the 2" 24-32-48 track tape that was used for recording the session. It doesn't sound like you need that. Don't get me wrong, it would do the job, I just don't see where you'd need anything that elaborate.

What size reels are the tapes on you want to transfer/convert? That'd be your main consideration, and what speed are they recorded at?

I also have an old Akai reel to reel deck that the record function doesn't work on, but it'll play just fine, (or it did when it was last used), but it doesn't play at the 15ips that the Teac does, I believe it's like half of that maybe 7 1/2 ips? And it will only take the 7" reels, as opposed to the Teac which will take the larger, don't remember exactly but seems like they are 12" or 15" reels.

Or you could just check out your local flea markets and/or pawn shops. I'd take $50 for the Akai plus shipping. I also bought it new, probably in about 1972 or so, when I lived in Miami. Been carting it around ever since! When my boys were about 6 and 8 they broke the record cam cause you have to push down a release button before you turn it to record...they didn't know that and forced it! Somewhere I have the broken cam in a bottle, and thought I could make one or have one made at a machine shop and this deck would perform as new. Needless to say, never got a "round toit"

Tried calling Akai for replacement parts, but several decades had passed, and after about 5 transfered calls, ended up talking to a lady in China, who answered the phone "Mitsubishi..how I help you?" No available parts for this machine.

Anyway, after all my rambling, figure out what you need and if you're still interested, get back to me.

These measure 12 1/4". I hadn't thought about pawnshops. I'll look into that. If I don't find anything there, I'll holler atcha.
