I have a special request (Tools.) that is urgent! (Page 1/2)

I need pneumatic tools. Not much but something to get started.
Why? I've worked at independents (21y.o atm been to two), I have never been able to save up to buy tools when the trucks come by. And I have a house to pay rent on, insurance, ect. So it hasn't been easy, I do have mainly hand tools.

I have the chance to work at a KIA Dealership, I've been "laid off" (Let go.. for better words) for two months.
Entry level in the door at $11/hr, best job to date (7.75/8.00 to rebuild/swap/replace motors isn't worth it..)
The Service Manager wants me to get a few impact tools (Ratchets, guns, sockets, torque sticks, swivels, ect.)

I want to prove I want to be there, I just really don't have the funds for new off the shelf tools and Craigslist has been bare.

Does ANYONE around MA, RI, CT, ect or able to ship have any of these?
How much are you asking, shipping included?

It'd be nice to get a few things and be able to start buying and paying weekly when I get back on my feet.

See if the truck will set up an account for your. Don't go crazy with it either. Don't forget basic sockets will not last for ever behind the use of impacts.

Well I'll be going to a dealership, usually Snap-On won't even put you on an account until you've been there for X amount of days.
But I do have a line of credit of $3,000 with them. Which I'm going to ask if I can setup an account the first day and get $500 worth of other tools.

Thankfully it's just tires/oil/prelims for a few months, but I need to acquire quite a bit in that time.

I've been a heavy equipment mechanic for 30+ yrs, and two things I'd like to advise you on Get a good quality impact gun, but for air ratchets the harbor freight $19 ones last just as long as the $200 top name ones. Stay away from their impact wrenches though. Die grinders from them are also OK.

Try ebay, they have name brand tools (use the ebay search box).

Ive gotten lots of air tools that lasted me for many years from Harbor Freight and a store chain called Odd Lots if you have them. Most I got are Chicago Pneumatics. All were less than $20 each. I have 1/2" impact, 3/8"& 1/4" drive rachets, cut off tools, sawzall, die grinder. If they ever do break, ill just go buy another one. The $12.00 3/8" ratchet is used almost daily and I bought it around 1990. I figure less than $1.00 a year is a good deal....

HF also does life time guarantee....cant go wrong with that. I've never had a problem with getting a new tool if the old one failed, which has only been 1 wrench and 2 air tools in the past several years.

Also check the "clearance" bin at your local HF. parts, tools store....I picked up a complete air tool set (regular $249) for $30 last week at Princess Auto. Only thing wrong whith them is a cracked carry case (which I toss anyway) and they are "last years" model so the grips have green insrts instead of this years blue....

I have 2 impact guns, a top of the line Craftsman Twin Hammer, composite body, (light weight) 650lb of torque in reverse, amazing gun, even has a muffler to keep it quite. My 2nd gun I bought as an emergency tool, when I was in Oregon and needed to work on my car. Its was a Harbour Freight Earthquake 1/2 drive gun. Similar to my Craftsman as it was composite body, twin hammer and similar torque ratings. I thought its HF it will be junk after the first use. I paid over 250 bucks for my Craftsman gun, I got the HF gun on sale for like $69 bucks. I was blown away by the HF Earthquake gun. Its smooth, lightweight and has very low air consumption. Its a little louder than my Craftsman as I mentioned my craftsman has a muffler. However I find myself reaching for the HF gun more than the Craftsman gun.

So if you buy HF buy their better Earthquake brand and I don't think you will be disappointed.

P.S. I do own some Snap On and some Mac tools, in my honest opinion, they are not worth it. For a newbie like yourself, buy stuff you can afford that will get job done, you don't need to be paying for a name and status symbol when you are starting out.
