Randy Weaver moved to Pleasant Valley after that. I met him when I was hunting there in Montana in 1996. He seemed like a regular Joe and was on a pretty even keel, considering what he had been through.

Holy **** , I'd never heard of this before... this is insane.

(and keep in mind, I hate Wikipedia) ... it doesn't say (or I'm not seeing it), who started shooting. It merely says a "shootout ensued" which led to the death of the wife and son.
Regardless, the inherent nature of bureaucracy is what creates situations like this. From what I know about Federal government, situations like this get exacerbated, the number of people AND use of force is exacerbated simply by the fact that when an operation is planned, you have dozens and dozens of people who BEG to be on it. Most FBI agents spend their entire time behind a desk. Going on an arrest or raid is the penultimate part of any operation. It's what everyone wants to be part of, and they'll often over-staff a situation in many instances for the sole purpose of "training on the job." So, you end up with more people than you need, and it becomes a show.
Additional to that, the more people you end up with on high-profile operations, the larger the bullet point for that operation on the manager and / or branch chief's promotion package. Promotion is another reason why so many people try to get involved in these raids... because people end up with citation awards, pay bonuses, awards, etc... and it becomes a talking point in their career.
... this seems to be a huge example of that.

It doesn't matter what kind of BS you make up. We all have memories, and we all remember EVERY SINGLE POLITICAL ENTITY fighting anything President Trump did.
President Trump did not control the Census. That's something only truly stupid people would believe.
It is believable that one certain political ideology would control the Census Bureau... Yea, the Right is known for taking over Government Agencies.

The census is geared to providing a count of the population on one specific date, in this case April 1, 2020. A remedy that involved ordering the Census Bureau to conduct another actual recount in the 14 affected states—a complex, expensive undertaking—would provide numbers on a different date than the original census, whose population totals would still be in effect for the rest of the states. This would raise fundamental fairness issues, given the high mobility of our population. |

I don't think that is how it would work: an enumerator working my block on March 15, 2023, for example, would ask how many people WERE living in the residence on April 1, 2020, not the current date. (If the Census Bureau was smart and non-partisan, they could ALSO ask about the current date, to pick up the extra data for free.) If we view this like any other Quality Audit, the remediation plan would call to re-do the Census in just those 8 States where the count was significantly different and adjust planned outcomes accordingly. The States that lose seats and resources could sue, but statistically they wouldn't have a leg to stand on. However, they would be able to make some great TV commercials based on the alleged 'unfairness.'
