Having reviewed this reportage from New American magazine, that forum member Vintage-Nut brought into the conversation, I want to underline one sentence that I think has merit:

Are we watching China "dramatically increasing" their carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions, instead of making a real effort to curb these emissions? And are we on a path to "impoverish[ing] ourselves trying to reduce CO2 emissions"..?
Those are topics worthy of continued discussion.
