Damn Rinse... you live in Sunnyvale and never played an Atari 2600? There's got to be a museum somewhere around there... you should check it out.

He should be in it. Along side of me.

I used to be big into games back when you had to pay, game by game. At the arcade.

The early console games were uninspiring. I never tried them since.

This is our arcade room downstairs...

We also have a Galaga in one of the upstairs bedrooms. I leave the Super PacMan on all the time... it has al LED bulbs, and is a super-small PCB that has 60 games on it. Essentially, the only thing powered is something the size of a calculator, an LED monitor, a marquee light, and two coin LEDs. I mostly play PacMan Jr, PacMan Plus, and Super PacMan. My wife plays Galaga on it, and my daughter plays Centipede on it. I love arcade machines... and they're fairly expensive now because well... they take up a lot of space so no normal person would want one in their home. But I'm not normal...

EDIT: The Missile Command on the right... that's been with me since I was like ~20 years old. I've been hauling it with me every place I've moved. It's well-worn, but still works. I've had to fix it repeatedly... the thing is so damned old... but it works awesome.

What's in the arcade room upstairs, ?

If I didn't pay to play all the arcade games that I played, I could have bought a brand new Fiero, .

I am trying to remember the names of my favorite games. I have tried to see demonstrations of the ones I remember so I can name them. My 'puter ability is not cooperating.

One I do remember, a favorite of mine, is Zaxxon. My, those gaming 'consoles' are pricey.

Upstairs we have a Galaga arcade machine. It's also totally restored, but the CRT monitor has started having issues with the colors washing out. I'm thinking of replacing the CRT with an LED monitor, but the people on the Arcade forums consider this blasphemy... to them, it's like putting an MR2 body kit on a Fiero (if that was a thing). But that's the room we also have all the other video games... Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Atari Jaguar, Atari 2600, Super Nintendo, NES, and a Game Boy Cube that allows you to play GameBoy games on the TV. It's also where my daughter practices piano and cello. To be honest, other than the Super Pac Man arcade machine, I don't really play games.

As for Zaxxon, the Polybius arcade machine in the picture is actually (or was) a Zaxxon machine. Polybius is a "creepy pasta" as the kids call it... it's a conspiracy story about an arcade game designed by the CIA to conduct psychological experiments on kids ... which of course is completely ridiculous, but it was a fun theme for me to build a large multi-game system off of it.

If you really like Zaxxon, there are a few that pop up now and then. A "reasonable" price for a well-restored and perfectly running Zaxxon system should cost you about $1,200-$1,500 *SHIPPED* to your house.

That $3,650 one is absurdly priced.

In my day, we had to walk uphill in the snow to play "tank". And that wasn't easy in Phoenix!

Tis the season to change gender
Fa la la la la, la la la la
Toss your hangups in the blender
Fa la la la la, la la la la

Don we now our gay apparel
Fa la la, Fa la la, la la la
Don’t call me Mike, my new name’s Meryl
Fa la la la la, la la la la

Another work in progress.

Saw that pic and said "whuuuuut?!?"

Saw the screen and figured it was a MAME or multi... very cool.

Thought they actually found a Polybius arcade cabinet, and the game was rather boring. (not a gov thing). can't find that video now...
