Since you bring it up, I've actually read Mein Kampf. Not because I supported his idealism, but because I was on a WW2 kick about ~20 years ago and was reading as many books as I could on the subject. I came to realize that evil is often right in front of us... but we fail to notice it because of our cognitive biases. That is, we accept value based on "emotion" and we embrace denialism to anything that is counter to what we assert from those idealistic beliefs. In effect, we see what we want to see, and we wave away the negatives subconsciously or justify them as a necessary evil for whatever cause we support. In effect... we excuse "the end justifies the means," approach. Which is exactly what you saw in WW2 with the citizens of Germany in regard to the holocaust during the manifestation of Hitler's mental illness and sociopathy.
