It was a big blow to Texas, as Mrs Bairds was huge (largest in the USA) and had been here since 1908. (They got fined a few years before the sale..$10 million, for price fixing and settled a different but related lawsuit for $13-$18million.) I never remember any other brand bread in our household and I still buy only Mrs Bairds. You got me to thinking. When I was growing up, Butter Krust was the "brand" to keep on hand. I remember as a kid, on Broadway St in San Antonio, the Butter Krust production factory had a motorized conveyor belt in a large, long picture window.
