Pentagon expected to OK National Guard for DC truck convoys

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon is expected to approve the deployment of 700 to 800 unarmed National Guard troops to the nation's capital, a U.S. official said Tuesday, in the face of trucker convoys that are planning protests against pandemic restrictions beginning next week.

The District of Columbia government and the U.S. Capitol Police are requesting the National Guard assistance. The troops would be used largely to help control traffic and are expected to come from the district's National Guard and three states, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss aid not yet formally approved.

Modeled after recent trucker protests in Canada, separate truck convoys have been planned through online forums with names like the People’s Convoy and the American Truckers Freedom Fund — all with different starting points, departure dates and routes. Some are scheduled to arrive in time for President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address next Tuesday, March 1, though others may arrive afterward.

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said the D.C. government and Capitol Police had requested National Guard personnel “to provide support at traffic control points in and around the District” and stand ready in case of “possible disruptions at key traffic arteries.” He too said no formal decision on the requests had been made.

The convoys follow the recent Canadian truckers' protest which shut down the busiest U.S. Canadian border crossing and besieged the streets of the capital, Ottawa, for weeks to protest government pandemic restrictions. The multiple blockades were broken up by police last week, with more than 100 arrests.

It remains to be seen if any of the U.S. convoys would seek to actively shut down Washington's streets, the way their Canadian counterparts did in Ottawa. Some convoy organizers have spoken of plans to briefly roll through the city, then focus on shutting down the Beltway, which encircles the capital.

A statement from the People’s Convoy specifically says the trucks “will NOT be going into DC proper.” That convoy is planning to embark Wednesday from southern California and arrive in D.C. around March 5.

All I'm gonna say at this point is, this could get interesting...........
I've got a feeling that if the same thing happens in DC, it'll be handled differently. Could be wrong, guess we'll see.

Do you think they will just wave them in so they can then use it later to sway peoples minds?
Or do you think they will do the job and manage traffic.

Saw this morning where the Pentagon has approved 700 unarmed NG will be activated and assigned to duties associated with this protest.
I fully expect them to be assigned to traffic control of some kind or maybe just as security for certain areas and let the DC Police handle traffic control.
But, this is not my area of expertise. I also read where they are contracting with some heavy haulers to tow those that make the decision to not move when asked.

I think (hoping) that the cop-types learned some lessons from our little party and keep thier distance.

There is a WHOLE big bunch of them with egg on the face today since the leaked donor list has a sheetload of cops, politicians and "others' on it. . Accounts are being unfrozen and the goobymint is back-peddling as fast as they can.

It's turning into the biggest screw-up fiasco since gender-bending.

I don't think the National Guard will conduct Gestapo tactics like the Canadians did, which went to clear out peaceful protests.

They will be there to ensure that everything is peaceful, which is a good thing.

I'm sure Antifa members will be there to try to produce violence for the media to fake the perspective.

There was talk in the trucker world that the convoy wasn't really going to DC, and I was excited that perhaps they had someone with a brain in charge... But it doesn't look like that turned out to be true.

My vote was to either block the ports, or the bridges across the Mississippi. Both would cripple the economy and get the attention that is needed. Going to DC is a fools game. They will let them in, and like wild hogs, once they corral them, they will then begin the cull. It'll be from the media and the Police.

Just think it through. How would that even work?

Do you think that thousands of Red Blooded Americans, most of them retired Military, would be taking money from Putin? And further, how would that even work?

Soros has networks set up, and channels money through all the fake charity organizations. Have you heard of things like that from Putin?
