The EU, in 'watershed moment,' announces it will send weapons to Ukraine, while also shutting its airspace to Russian planes and banning state-owned media

The EU announced it will supply Ukraine with weapons, while also strengthening sanctions against Russia.
Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Union Commission, said the EU also will ban all Russian aircraft.
It will also ban state-owned Russian media outlets including Russia Today and Sputnik.
The European Union on Sunday said it will purchase and deliver weapons to Ukraine, while also strengthening sanctions against Russia including closing its airspace to Russian planes and banning state-owned Russian media.

Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Union Commission, called the effort a "watershed moment" in an announcement on Sunday.

"The European Union steps up once more its support for Ukraine and the sanctions against the aggressor that is Putin's Russia," Leyen said. "For the first time ever, the European Union will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons and other equipment to a country that is under attack."

The bans and strengthened sanctions come as global support for Ukraine intensifies in response to ongoing attacks following Russia's invasion of the country on Thursday.

Will this deter Russia or change Putin's mind? Only time will tell.
EDIT: Posted for those interested. If not interested, that's fine with me.

What a surprise, eh? The story is why there is a term known as 'fake news'. The headline might as well read, OF COURSE THE EU IS STILL PART WITH THE NWO (and will be until the Ministry of Truth rebrands it's unofficial name).

Feeding the Ukraine military and their Neo-Nazis battalions with more arms only ensures more innocent civilians will be killed.

That's one way to look at it. Just posting what I read.
So, you think Ukrainians would elect a Jewish President? Interesting concept.

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy was born to Jewish parents on 25 January 1978 in Kryvyi Rih, then in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.[13][14][15][16] His father, Oleksandr Zelenskyy, is a professor and head of Department of Cybernetics and Computing Hardware at the Kryvyi Rih Institute of Economics; his mother, Rymma Zelenska, used to work as an engineer.[17][18][19] His grandfather, Semyon (Simon) Ivanovych Zelenskyy, served in the Red Army (in the 57th Guards Motor Rifle Division)[20] during World War II; Semyon's father and three brothers were murdered in the Holocaust.[21] Prior to starting elementary school, Zelenskyy lived for four years in the Mongolian city of Erdenet, where his father worked.[14] At the age of 16, he passed the Test of English as a Foreign Language and received an education grant to study in Israel, but his father did not allow him to go.[22] He later earned a law degree from the Kryvyi Rih Institute of Economics, then a department of Kyiv National Economic University and now part of Kryvyi Rih National University, but did not go on to work in the legal field.[14][23]

I suppose it had to be done, but how long will it be before EU/NATO personnel and/or aircraft get tangled up in this mess? I don't see this being contained to Russia and Ukraine much longer.

Willie,

If and when Russian forces cross another border it's gonna get ugly. But I don't have an answer to that. Had the Russians stopped with the two areas they initially took over, they may have gotten away with it and only have been scolded like a bad child but, with the escalation now, most of the rest of the world sees them as a real threat. At least that's the way I read it.

I hope Putin realizes his situation and doesn't do anything stupid but, that line appears to have already been crossed. He sees NATO as an offensive threat and yet, NATO has never taken an offensive action. Hard to explain.

Not hard at all...

Ever lived beside a wasp nest ? Even if they have never swarmed or attacked, it is in their nature and the threat of them doing so is real. So the nest gets exterminated in a pre-emptive strike.

Putin sees NATO as that hornets nest.

Not a bad anology.

My neighbor has dogs that have come over and attacked our dogs. I ran them off and advised the owner that if they ever showed up again, they wouldn't be coming home. Other than that, we get along well. No offensive threat from me, only defensive. Apparently, Putin has an ego issue. Doesn't play well with others and wants to be the bully on the playground. At least, that's the way it appears.

Neither the Russians or the Chinese are known to rush into action.

There is more afoot than the Ukraine.

Perhaps it's just the bright shiny object currently occupying everyone.

That is also a distinct possibility.
