No, it's a neocon piece presented as intellectual. It calls to immediately increase military spending 4% and supply the Ukraine with all the arms they can use.
quote | Western diplomacy in the winter crisis of 2021–2022 was ineffectual precisely because Western leaders mistakenly thought diplomacy alone is capable of solving global problems. |
|
What diplomacy? The USA specifically was obtuse, with hubris toward Russia about their (the Western) development plans for the Ukraine.
Putin refused to recognize the 2 break away regions as independent for 8 years as he looked for a diplomatic solution to protect the Russians there. Bullying Russia didn't work.
It's reported that the day after the US coup that overthrew the Ukraine gov that they dictated that Russian was no longer an official language and was banned from being taught, used, etc.
As to Crimea, were there not a coup then would Russia have recognized it as independent? Doubtful that he would.
I'll edit, probably, in a moment. I did. The piece coulda been presented by Dennis Prager (sp) or a disciple. It's trying to rewrite history.[This message has been edited by sourmash (edited 03-08-2022).]

"Ukraine [parliament] passes language law, irritating [Ukraine] president-elect [Zelensky] and Russia"
Pavel Polityuk for Reuters; April 25, 2019. https://www.reuters.com/art...russia-idUSKCN1S111N
Zelensky's first language is Russian, if I'm not mistaken. As Ukraine's president-elect in 2019, he said he was going to review the law, passed in the final days of his predecessor, that privileged the Ukrainian language over the Russian language in various ways. I don't know what came of that.
I saw a remark the other day where one of the "knocks' on Zelensky during the election of 2019 was that he was expected to be more conciliatory towards Russia than many "Ukes" wanted in their next president.
This language law is something that surely could have been made better, if Putin had actually been serious about wanting to resolve issues peacefully via negotiations.[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 03-09-2022).]

Putin tried for 8 years. All he got was the USA and NATO wiping the Uke leader's crack with their middle fingers and sticking that middle finger in Putin's face. He tried again during recent meetings and was ignored. He stated that this was not sustainable.
I was wrong in another post that Rams is the most wrong person in OT and P/R. But Rams and you are taken more seriously than the top 2 most wrong people. You and Rams have very similar credibility reputations.

A show of hands, please, as to who is the most incorrect person in O/T and P/R.
Curious minds are.....well.....curious.

It's not a popularity contest. You have to provide actual evidence.
But the former is the caveman/non thinking/shoutdown approach.

Who said anything about a popularity contest? Oh, wait.....yup, that was Forum member sourmash.
In this age of misinformation, propaganda and fake news, I would suggest that most of these discussions and arguments are rhetorical.
Therefore, I am calling for an opinion poll....
And you know what they say about opinions.[This message has been edited by olejoedad (edited 03-09-2022).]

Opinions are all it is. That approach is asking fellow group thinkers to make the NPC face. My job is to find the brainwashed people by having them make the face. Go for it. You can see who the non-playable characters are too.[This message has been edited by sourmash (edited 03-09-2022).]
