When people use "racism" as a protection against everything they see as a slight, it ends up working against them more and more. There are so many examples I've seen where other minorities see someone of same or different minority trying to use racism as a reason to explain away poor behavior, and it just gets them into more trouble, and devalues instances when there actually is legitimate racism. The problem is, many Democrats have absolutely no morals whatsoever ... so they will use ANYTHING they can. It's probably unfair for me to say that, I don't want to say they don't have morals... they may not be the same as my own, but Democrats firmly believe in the concept of "the end justifies the means." So, with that, they are OK with anything and everything that helps further a cause.
