Perhaps one of our members could educate us with first hand knowledge on the subject.

Knowing someone that is a care giver to a highly autistic person, its the worst. I would not wish this on anyone.

I would guess it's sort of like suffering from liberalism.

It's not the one with it that suffers, it's those around them.

I was hoping our California news anchor would chime in to comment about this topic.

He seems to have knowledge about the topics in every other thread in this sub-Forum.

Autism is not one specific disease but is an entire spectrum of disorders and could be described as following a Bell curve. There are all degrees of Autism represented on this curve. One end of the curve is comprised of people who cannot even basically take care of themselves and the other end may contain highly functional or even genius level members of society. Autistic people also generally lack in social skills and find it hard to relate to others.

Autistic people also display very peculiar / idiosyncratic communications, both oral and textual.

Autistic individuals with prodigious savant syndrome should not be confused with "genius" level IQ in the general population, (they aren't).

[original statement] stricken from the record, after I changed my mind about what I had said.
