Serious conversation here... when you work for the government, especially in a position like that... your work and efforts should be about your country. "You" no longer become the important aspect of it... the work becomes important. It's very obvious to me that this individual thinks only of himself... "he" is the point here, not whatever it is that's going on in the background. Every opportunity like this, is an opportunity to talk about himself or show himself to the world.
Even if you're proud of who or what you are... if you become a distraction, then you're not doing your job correctly. I have been in some high-profile positions over the years... and I wear crazy shirts with floral patterns. I spent much of my adult life in South Florida working in Miami. When I worked in other states, my team gave me the call-sign of "Cocaine Todd" simply because I have a lot of energy and I'm from Miami / South Florida. I've never used drugs (to be clear). But when I'm in a position where I'm traveling to a site, giving a presentation, or in the rare situation where there might be cameras, I'm going to wear very professional clothes... because it's not about ME... it's about the work and the efforts of the organization. So you intentionally take the focus OFF of yourself.
Everything this person above does, is about him. Do you think people respect him for this? Everyone can see it, whether they realize it or not...

Is that true?
He—I mean "they"—cannot undo anything that they've already done, or erase anything that's already become a matter of public record about them, before they were awarded this job with the Department of Energy.
They are not a political appointee. They were not nominated for this position by President Biden. They were awarded this job via the Department of Energy's non-political or civil-service hirings and promotions process. They'd already had a track record of employment with or as a consultant to the federal government on these nuclear fuel and nuclear waste related issues. That started when Obama was President, and continued while Trump was President.
Hey Sam, sorry about that pronouns slip-up where I started to refer to you as "He". Just in case you (or the both of you) are reading along here.
