An argument from the left... "Republicans are so stupid!" (Page 1/1)

I hear this all the time from my more left-leaning friends... it goes something like this... "Republicans are so stupid, they have no idea what they vote for. They never vote for things that will actually help them."

The big take-away is that I've come to realize that Democrats tend to vote for people where they believe they will directly benefit. This is completely counter to how I've almost always voted... which is to vote for policies that, while I may not get "free stuff" it's more on the ideological basis of getting the government LESS involved, and simply creating more opportunity by not regulating it. I want LESS government involvement, even if that means I need to work harder for something, because I know the benefit is more significant... for everyone.

Democrats always seem to think Republicans are stupid for not voting for our own self-interests, rather than for the benefit of the country.

.

ONLY ONCE can I think of a situation where I voted for personal benefit. Here in Tampa, I had the opportunity to vote in the primary for two Republican candidates for the same city council seat. One of them was an avowed anti-communist, and said he was going to fight hard against communism in my district. The other said he was going to fight hard to ensure the city council made good on their debts and projects, and to stop taking money from the suburbs and spending it on inner-city projects. He promised instead to direct the funding to widen the roads, as had been originally funded over a decade ago, but Democrats kept using it for welfare programs.

So, while I certainly love a good anti-Communist candidate... I didn't think there was really that much communism in our district, but I definitely felt like we needed two-lane roads instead of single-lane roads.

I agree with you. I've always found it to be a ridiculous argument that kind of shows their cards. I've never even thought of voting as something we should do to benefit ourselves. I've always approached it as a time to make my voice stand for what I believe is the most correct option.

I'd say it's a huge problem with Democrats in general. Many of them think that's how everyone should vote, and it shows when they campaign.

I think that the Democratic Party attracts single issue voters, by design. It seems to me that they will appeal to any demographic that feels disenfranchised by giving lip service to an issue, regardless of how it can be reconciled against other issues which they also claim to support. They seem to ignore the big picture.

You trigger me. I have a low tolerance for stupid people.

I would be the Davy Crockett of political bodies.

What is so stupid about Dumbocrats is, they say Congress should do something about immigration policy.

Hello, they did. We have immigration laws passed by Congress already.

BINGO...we have a wiener !

They are really good at saying "you should do...."

Getting off their ass and doing something themselves. NOT so much.

I don't know, I think the less they do, the better we are.

It is their full time job to make laws. Don't you think that at some point we would have plenty of laws?
Laws are the antithesis of freedom.

And that's the difference between Right and Left, in a tidy little nutshell.

A Leftist's answer to every problem in life, real or imaginary, is government.

A Leftist's answer to every failure of government is *more* government.
