Climate scientists and researchers named 'Greta' ... remembering 'Project Steve' (Page 1/1) |

Project Steve was (perhaps is) a somewhat satirical effort, associated with the National Center for Science Education or NSCE, to highlight the broad-based consensus among scientists that the modern theory of Evolution explains our (human) existence, and that alternative ideas such as Creationism or Intelligent Design do not.
I don't know when it started, but by August 12, 2020, the project had documented the names of more than 1400 scientists who went (or go by) the familiar name of "Steve", and that agreed (agree) with the broad scientific consensus that favors Evolution over alternate ideas such as Creationism or Intelligent Design.
For comparison, a retired art teacher referenced an estimated number of just 2700 credentialed scientists altogether, of any and all familiar names, who supported (support) the scientific validity of Creationism or Intelligent Design. (I don't have a date for this Quora forum posting.) https://qr.ae/prr424
Project Steve was (is) in recognition of the late Stephen Jay Gould, 1941-2002. "Steve" Gould was a New York City-born and bred paleontologist, evolutionary biologist and historian of science who rose to national and international preeminence in all of these fields. He was also something of a Major League Baseball fan; he found references in America's Pastime to illustrate some of his scientific insights, where historical records and statistics were germane to the discussion.
The 1000th scientist documented by Project Steve was (is) Steven P. Darwin... "Steve" Darwin. Not a descendant of Charles Darwin. https://ncse.ngo/steve-darwin-steve-1000
There was (is) much merriment and humorous "takes" that were (are) connected with Project Steve, as is evident from that online page link.
So I had the thought (a few hours ago) if there could be a Project Greta, to document the names of credentialed scientists who go by "Greta" and also agree with the idea that there is an urgency—or at least an importance—about human efforts to limit or reduce the concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as a Climate Mitigation strategy to counteract Global Warming.
I doubt that i will get very far with this, but I do have a candidate for Greta #1:
Dr. Greta Carrete Vega, "ecosystem scientist" https://cervest.earth/news/...-pioneers-greta-vega
I have not, however, verified that Dr. Vega believes in an urgency or importance about curtailing of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions, as I set this up—an agenda item for the other "rinselberg" in some other one of the innumerable other universes of the quantum multiverse.[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 01-05-2023).]

Dr. Greta Carrete Vega is Greta #1. Now, for Greta #2 ... drum roll please:
Greta Shum, graduate student; University of Washington.
quote | I am a 3rd-year graduate student at the University of Washington, Seattle, studying how interactions between the Earth’s surface and atmosphere interact with each other and produce feedbacks, specifically how different types of plants interact with their environment to produce altered environments.
I study these interactions using models with the intention of building a deeper fundamental understanding of Earth’s climate system as well as how these kinds of feedback could play out on other planets where life might evolve. I am also very interested in how climate science can best be communicated outside of the scientific papers in order to make our daily lives better and more sustainable. |

That's just for "openers", as there is more from Greta Shum herself on the University of Washington's Ecoclimate Lab website: https://www.atmos.washingto...c/author/greta-shum/[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 01-08-2023).]

Greta Easthom, Graduate Student | Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences | North Carolina State University
quote | Communicating weather phenomena and climate trends became a discovered passion of mine at University of Maryland where I obtained double undergraduate degrees in atmospheric science and multiplatform journalism. . . . With the right tools and applications accessible to the public, the far-reaching implications of a warming climate can be effectively conveyed. |
