"DOE Announces $42 Million to Develop More Affordable and Efficient Advanced Electric Vehicle Batteries in America"

A Dozen Selected Projects Will Develop Advanced EV Batteries that Charge Faster, Have Greater Efficiency and Resilience, and Boost Consumer Confidence Against Range Anxiety

The EVs4ALL program is managed by DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). ARPA-E selected the following 12 teams from universities, national laboratories and the private sector to address and remove key technology barriers to EV adoption by developing next-generation battery technologies...

The grant recipients (12 in all) are identified with brief summaries of their aspirations, in terms of what each recipient hopes to bring to the EV battery technology "table".

To quote my favorite politician: 'Crumbs.' Forty-two million dollars is an almost meaningless investment. Since this is Uncle Joe's top priority, presumably there are Billions invested in battery development projects elsewhere??

The billion is going into a good old gas-guzzler.

Hot dog! Well, it looks like good news for Michigan. But I WISH they would ALSO invest in a new 60 degree V6 crate motor ...

Solid Power Operating (Thornton, CO) will develop a 3D-structured [lithium] metal anode and novel sulfur composite cathode to enable high-energy and fast-charging EV battery cells. (Award amount: $5,600,000)

That's the largest of these (12) ARPA-E grants. I guess these are grants and not loans. I didn't see otherwise.

Lithium and sulfur. "Li" and "S".

Maybe there should be a Fantasy Technology League.

I am glad you are finally seeing the scam ! Your OverLords green initiative is just another reason to spend money, giving it to the people they want to give it to.

You have come a long way rinselberg. You are worth saving.

Do you know of all the deadly components in lithium batteries ? Which will soon pollute the planet that you think you are saving, ?

Ah. Let's pretend that whatever drawbacks there are to the current (ahem) kinds of EV batteries are insurmountable. And that no one is trying to remedy or overcome said drawbacks. And that no one has so much as a "clue" about how to remedy or overcome said drawbacks, not withstanding the descriptions of putative new designs and formulations for EV batteries in this list of ARPA-E sponsored research projects.

And let's pretend that there is nothing short of ideal, from an environmental perspective, about continuing with just as many (if not more) gasoline and diesel-powered road vehicles.

I got a better idea...

Lets just use some cocamamie made-up slow-motion lethal injection to kill off about a third or half, or even more, of those useless eaters. Then we can keep our gas motors without worrying about there being too many of them.

Introducing the NobaltTM (No Cobalt) EV battery.

Everything else after coming up with this brand name should be a piece of cake.

Why not ? We are pretending that Global Warming will make all life void on Earth.

Are you pretending that after all the improvements in fossil fuel usage, nothing else can be done ?
