"Take up the white man's burden"..? Beyond that, I'm not connecting the dots. But I can't say that I am "schooled" in Rudyard Kipling, beyond the most basic and commonplace familiarity with him and his name.

Well, entirely aside from the fact that Kipling was born very near where this happened, read the first line of his poem which shares its title with the first word of my previous post.

Now I'll bet you didn't get the connection in the thread about Finland joining NATO, either.
You said to let music set the mood, so I posted three music videos, all of which were the same song, "Levan Polka", a Finnish song about a girl who sneaks out at night to dance with her boyfriend, in a region very near the Russian border. The first two renditions were by Finns and the third was by a Russian band that got their start busking on the streets of Finland.
