'Shots Fired' Iran's navy fires on oil tanker before US Navy answers distress call. (Page 1/1)

Iran's navy tried to board a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, but withdrew before boarding the tanker when a nearby U.S. Navy destroyer, the USS McFaul, closed on their location.

Just hours later, and not far away, the Richmond Voyager, a Bahamian-flagged oil tanker, issued a radio distress call and once again, the USS McFaul sped towards the scene. Iran's navy once again withdrew from the engagement without boarding the oil tanker, but not before inflicting damage with small arms fire that was aimed near the living quarters for the tanker's crew.

This was enough of a story to break through on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports."

This is a detailed report from the U.S. Defense Department:

"U.S. Prevents Iran from Seizing Two Merchant Tankers in Gulf of Oman"

It has an aerial surveillance photograph of the moment when the Iranians were firing on that second of the two merchant ships.

Going to have to do some more research on this.

Hard for me to believe that Iranian vessels have actually "seized" tankers before without it being all over the news.

As divided as our country is right now I don't think either party would stand for Iran seizing private merchant vessels.

Remember when Obama refused to grant authorization for our soldiers to engage Iran, so instead, the NAVY soldiers had to surrender?
