I wish they would at least place them in general population in prison and tell everyone why they are there. Here at the local jail they get their own safe space.

Death penalty should only be for people who give full confession and request the death penalty.
Our criminal justice system has way too many flaws to allow it to condemn a person to death. No matter how heinous the crime proving guilt 100% is always a problem.

I am completely against the death penalty.
There is something to be said that we cannot and should not allow people back into society, but I do not believe we can therefore play God and take a life. I also believe that these individuals who are so damaged mentally, should not be allowed to mingle with other inmates who are (at least trying) to reform themselves and pay their debt to society. I think to a great extent, society failed a lot of the people who are currently on death row. This does not mean that their crimes are excusable, but it means that had society done a better job of identifying and treating mental illness, it's possible that these crimes would never have occurred in the first place.
On that... society seems unwilling to deal with mental illness. Democrats exploit mental illness for political gain, while everyone ignores and refuses to question WHY it's occurring in more frequency.
We can place some blame on Reagan for eliminating most Federally-funded mental health institutions... even if that was just him signing the legislation. But with all of the faults of mental health facilities, and the potential Constitutional rights violations of "individual right to freedom" ... there was still work that could have been done to fix these institutions. Instead, here we are...[This message has been edited by 82-T/A [At Work] (edited 07-24-2023).]

Standing up for the rights of a SMALL MINORITY is not for "political gain". In fact Ron Desantis is claiming that supporting the rights of the LGBTQ community is so completely UNPOPULAR that companies who do it should be subject to lawsuits from their shareholders. You people try to make arguments that 100% contradict each other.

Geeze Fred, I wasn't even talking about LGBT. I'm talking about DAs that refuse to properly charge criminals who commit crimes, and refusing to clean up homeless encampments where the majority are drug addicted and / or mentally insane.

I also have given up on the death penalty. It doesn't deter, it doesn't save money, it kills innocent people. I don't want that on my conscience.
Fredtoast: If they request the death penalty? If they deserve death, and want an "easy out" I'm not giving it to them. They'll probably have a worse time in prison. I'm not a good enough person to be above wanting them to be miserable for the rest of their lives.
