Sorry to break this to you MEM, but the July 20 hearings did not find anything like what article claims.

The sudden switch in ideology regarding limiting information on social media has to do with the Russians using social media to influence the 2016 election. Then came 2020 which started with people on social media claiming that the only people who caught covid were the ones who did not wash their hands. then when that was proven false they claimed that Covid would go away with warm weather. Then when that was proven false they claimed that you could not get covid more than once due to "natural immunity". Then when that was proven false they went in 100 different directions with all sorts of make believe reasons not to get the vaccine including microchips and other forms of "mind control".

"Freedom of speech" is one of the toughest issues to deal with in a democracy. You have to have a free press and individual freedom of speech to make things run properly. But it is also extremely dangerous and has to have some regulations. The right to bear arms has evolved over the years as we developed roto-cannons and shoulder fired missel launchers. The right to free speech also has to evolve in the era of social media.

But it is funny to see how the right spins stories on "censorship." I wish I could remember the details but if anyone forces me I will find it. Just a couple of days ago I saw a big story on Foxnews where they were talking about "proof" of Bidens censorship by talking about how he was upset that a certain story appeared in the news. That's right, they were using a story that was not censored and got released as proof of censorship.

Biden proposed guidelines to social media companies about disinformation, but there is no proof that he ever forced or influenced them to do anything. If you paid attention to the "Twitter Files" released by Elon Musk it illustrated how Twitter struggled with deciding what to do. They Biden administration has suggested guidelines to them, but they did not know exactly no how to enforce them. And it was also clear that they applied these regulations to extremists from both the left and the rigth. It is a stretch to call that "censorship".
