Putin's 'Forever War'.. epic photo essay on Russians and Russia in shadow cast by war (Page 1/2)

"Putin's Forever War"

The long time Paris bureau chief for the New York Times, Roger Cohen, has published a long photo essay about Russians and Russia as they live their lives in the shadow of Vladimir Putin and a civilizational conflict with the West that encompasses far more than the active military conflict with Ukraine.

The many large format photographs are remarkably vivid.

I scrolled through the photos and accompanying text until I experienced "content fatigue." Perhaps I will return for more, at some later hour or day.

Paywall.

I'm certainly not going to pay, in order to read anything the New York Slimes prints.

You sure?

Maybe if you use the link, it will give it to you as a "Freebie"..?

There's a hack of using the link to start loading the page, and then clicking on whatever would cause your browser to stop (abort, interrupt, cancel) the page-loading process before it's completed. I guess if you see the article, but before the browser signals that the page-loading has completed. That might work.

But perhaps this is just a theoretical point that you want to make? A comment on my posting of an article in the New York Times? Without any desire on your part to see the article?

Am I sure about what? That there's a paywall? Yup. No freebies in order, today.
Tried stopping in the middle of loading. Didn't work.

Theoretical point?
Also nope. I wanted to read/see the article. I think Putin is a cancer. I wish he were gone. But thanks for ASSuming...

The good old days.

Not the good old days.

Maybe this should go in the "leftists ruin everything" thread.

I halted the page loading early, and I was able to see the article. However, when I purposely did not stop it in time, I got the following... which I wouldn't call an actual "paywall".

CLICK FOR FULL SIZE

I might also add, that once that notice appears, it is not possible to re-load the article by trying any "hack".

Here is a gift link to get you through the paywall. It was a good article, if a hair long.

Edit: Link is so long it has issues. Trying a tinyurl.

Brennan, please remove that l-o-n-g URL. It has completely destroyed this thread!

Can you save me the effort... why do they call this "Putin's Forever War?"

I don't think it's even been a solid year... unless you count starting to put troops on the border back in March of 2021.
