Why the United States will not "split apart" (Page 1/3) |

I have heard a lot of extremist fear mongers talking about another civil war type situation where the middle of the country somehow spits off into its own new nation. Or maybe just another good old North v South rematch.
And in the recent debates about the electoral college there is a lot of talk about how totally different rural states are from more densely populated states.
But the days of States having radically different interests have passed. Even rural states have cities, industries, and businesses that account for a large part of their population and economy. In the 2020 election the Democrat's candidate was both a mentally challenged invalid and a crime boss. Yet there were only 11 States where he did not get at least 40% of the vote and only 4 where he did not get at least a third.
And those percentages are just for the 66.6% of the eligible voters who cared enough to vote. So even if Trump or Biden got 50% of the votes cast in a state that would only represent 33.3% of eligible voters.
So while there is a deepening divide among Americans it is not as "territorial" as many people seem to believe. An overwhelming majority of the states are different shades of purple. It just does not seem that way because the elected representatives almost all take extremist positions.

Looks like the usual combination of Leftist whack-job political theory and childlike wishful thinking.[This message has been edited by randye (edited 09-09-2023).]

Pure entertainment and games.
Just play right back......because, you know how it goes. The politics section of a car forum really DOES affect world events.

It's obvious that there are longstanding forum members who cannot receive with any equanimity, an idea or opinion that they do not believe is accurate, or do not want to believe is accurate, or that comes from an "outsider" (like Fred) who is not part of their political tribe.
These longstanding forum members are the forum's manifestation of political tribalism.
One of them greets Fred's new topic with the impertinent question of "What is the point of this post?" Duh. This is a free-ranging political discussion forum. It's hardly possible to think of a more ill-considered response or question.
And from the other one, the predictable juvenile reaction...

The original post in this thread is a good argument for how ballot harvesting can sway an election.
"Here, let me fill that out for you..."

Discussion of a political topic. It was inspired by the electoral college debate where a lot of people were acting like rural states and more populus states have completely opposite political beliefs. That just is not true. Pretty much all of the states are purple instead of "red" or "blue". It just does not seem that way because so many elected officials take hard line extremist positions.

I am sorry, but I don't understand this comment at all.
Please quote the section of my original posts that has anything to do with ballot harvesting. I don't see it at all.
