A former Florida state lawmaker who acquired more than $150,000 in Small Business Administration loans by lying on applications was sentenced Thursday to four months in federal prison, the US Attorney’s office for the Northern District of Florida said.

Former state Rep. Joseph Harding, a Republican, pleaded guilty in March to wire fraud, money laundering and making false statements in connection with Covid-19 relief fraud. Following his prison term, he will face two years of supervised release, a court record said. . . .

Harding has drawn the national spotlight before, as a sponsor of the controversial legislation that banned certain instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity in the classroom that opponents dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” law. The legislation officially named the “Parental Rights in Education” law, signed by Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis last year, set off a national firestorm and drew immediate pushback from LGBTQ advocates.

Harding, who resigned from the Florida House last year, is ordered to surrender by noon on January 29, 2024, his sentencing sheet says.

I have no doubt that there are Republican-leaning members on this forum who have been stuffing their pockets with ill-begotten Covid relief funds.

Republicans are not good people.

That a pretty big brush you're painting with there, Pablo.

Does it remind you of anyone? Not just anyone, but someone who shows up on this forum almost every day.

It should.

You miss a lot. Or maybe you've already developed the habit of scrolling hurriedly past his remarks without taking any particular notice of them.

His remarks are characteristically in the form of memes and cartoons which he's copied from social media, or photo images which he copies and captions. He often presents these without any other commentary.

He's like a modern day reincarnation of the legendary Oracle of Delphi, when astrologers and fortune tellers plied their trade in lavishly constructed shrines and temples, instead of the dilapidated storefronts in decaying strip malls where you commonly find them today.

Do you need a real brain ?

This legislation, which opponents dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” law say that ?

I assume you have no kids. Do you believe parents should not have Right to what their children are groomed for ?

What, the LGBTQ advocates got butt hurt, ?

That's nice. He still has to serve a four-month sentence in federal prison for stealing the Covid money, and after that, "supervised release."

"Republicans are not good people."

By what basis are you making this assumption? You've made this statement, please feel free to explain who you think on here would be lining their pockets?

You're not making the connection.

Here's a clue:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/.../HTML/000935.html#p5

You may not remember this. It may not have come to your attention, or created anything more than just a momentary impression on you, if you saw it. But it wasn't that long ago that my "mystery guest," who is also a forum member, said that he had no doubt that there were "leftists" on this very forum who were scamming the various government administered Covid relief programs.

I remember that remark, posted by the mystery guest—the "masked" forum member, as it were—as clear as a bell. It's part of his long running and ongoing "Leftists are not good people" campaign.

It's not so convenient to go back and find these things, because the Pennock's Search function does not process this Politics & Religion section. There's no option for it. It's a logical extension of the Pennock's Search function that has not been implemented.

I might be able to go back and find it, if I took the time for it.

Do you really doubt what I am saying?

This is what I mean when I say that the forum member in question "exposes" other forum members who seem never to find reason to dispute or take exception to anything that he puts up as a post.
