It seems that those here on the left seem befuddled by both the dramatic failure of policy, economy, and global relations under this current administration, and the frustration by those who are not steadfast in the support of our current president. I wanted to explain at least the second-half of that... so that the few of you on here can understand why people like myself have ... become "frustrated," and perhaps less supportive of the usual nuance that goes on down here. Something that Wichita mentioned in another thread made me think of this, and it really encompasses exactly how I feel, and what I've seen...

Remember them during Covid? Yeah, they will always be wrong, hateful and vindictive. They are not good people. They only put on a facade (known as virtue signalling), but it's just psychopathic and narrasitic behavior. |

As a kid... I graduated high school in the mid 1990s. My friends and I viewed politics in the same way that someone might support the NY Jets versus the Miami Dolphins. We had our views, but in large part, we all generally agreed that we wanted the same thing, we just believed in a different way to get there. I NO LONGER BELIEVE TODAY'S LEFT BELIEVES THIS.
... in the mid 1990s, I voted for Bill Clinton as my first presidential election that I could vote for. I continued to vote for Democrats when I moved to Florida. When Jeb Bush ran for office, I decided to vote for him because I was a big fan of Ronald Reagan... since I remembered how the economy was during the 80s, how everything was fantastic and every day something was new. Since I knew that Reagan's VP was Bush Sr., I believed he would lead in that vein ... and he did. So I voted for him, but then still voted Democrat straight ticket on everything else from Debbie Wasserman-Schutlz, to Bill Nelson for Senate, to other people I couldn't even remember. I voted for Bush Jr., when he ran as President because... again... association with Ronald Reagan. I voted for him again as did everyone else because I was fooled hook, line, and sinker on Iraq, etc. I still voted straight ticket Democrat on everything else.
... after a while, I started to see things change. During the end of the Bush administration, I started to see absolutely RABID behavior from people on the left. Most of my friends who were Democrats weren't really like this, so I just figured it was some crazy people. As time went on, these radical voices got worse, and worse and worse. I did not vote for Obama in part because of how vehemently radical the left had gotten. When Obama won, I was kind of like... "eh... ok, not the end of the world, we'll see what he does." And that's when things started to get nuts. Polices that were exceptionally radical, and my guy... Bill Nelson, was the last final deciding vote to pass Obamacare. After that, I decided I was no longer going to support him, and I voted for Rick Scott. It was at this time where I'd still voted for Ron Klien, a Democrat for the House, and the next mid-term election, I decided to vote for Allen West. At this point, I'd almost completely turned from being a Democrat to a Republican.
Since then, the left has gotten increasingly radical... supporting things like:
- ANTIFA (Anarchy / trillions in infrastructure and urban destruction) - Black Lives Matter (Defend the Police) - Abortion (going from rare and safe, to often and encouraged) - Abuse of the Federal Government (violating the 4th Amendment, trying to destroy the 1st and the 2nd)
... I could go on. But the extreme effort that the left has engaged to push these views is just beyond me. And every leftist person on here is an "apologist" for these items in the list. You will not take a centrist approach that these things, these ideas, are radical and on the wrong side of history.
So, I'm sorry... but what Wichita has said above, completely emphasizes my view of how the left has changed. As many people have said... I didn't leave the left, the left ... left me.

Before you were born, Nikita Khrushchev pounded his shoe on the desk at the UN, and stated (quite vigorously) "WE WILL BURY YOU!".
They already had a plan and were implementing it.
You now see the results.

Yep, many of us have been around long enough to have witnessed the change.
Much of what we call “The Left” is actually devoid of ideology. They act as they have been taught to act. Call it virtue signaling if you like, but it is really the foundation of the Tribal Mentality. They “go along to get along”.
They don’t actually stand for anything. They have been taught that it is virtuous enough to only stand against something.
They never consider why they do what they do. They never take the time for introspection. They believe that they do, but they actually seek validation as a substitute. It is the easier path. Their leaders provide validation.

I've probably said this before but, I am admittedly a DINO. I come from a total Democrat background and family.
As a young voter, I believed what I was taught and voted Dem. Never a straight ticket but always voted for Dems in the big jobs.
That's no longer true. I'm still a DINO but, I rarely vote for a Democrat. I didn't leave the Democrat party, they left me. I've witnessed how things go when Dems are in charge. They love to spend or give away our money and support the wildest and weirdest things.
I am admittedly a small government, pro-military readiness fiscal Conservative. That disqualifies me from being anything but a DINO.

To this day, I do not know if Wichita realizes that he was duped by this fraudulent claim about what happens to sea levels when the earth's climate becomes warmer. He posted this meme towards the end of 2022, without any commentary of his own. I can only believe that he posted it to express his agreement with it, and his agreement with its description (in so many words) of COP27—an international, United Nations-sponsored conference on climate change—as a gathering of "idiots."
Anyone who thinks that this image is a scientific explanation does not understand what causes sea levels around the planet to go higher when the planet's climate becomes warmer.
If it were just that, and if Wichita had ever acknowledged that he was duped by this image, or had even tried to discuss it when I raised it (more than once) on the forum, Wichita would have scored some "gravitas" points with me—but he never did.
More recently, he has posted photographs which he says (or implies) "debunk" the findings by NASA, NOAA and other researchers that sea levels around the world have increased some since the 1940s and undermine the concerns that researchers have about what sea levels will be like if countries around the world fail in their efforts to reduce carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gas emissions.
I have explained why these photographs that he posted do not measure up on a science basis.
There's other "stuff" of that kind, from Wichita, that I could describe from memory. But it's more important to observe that he seldom (if ever) engages in further discussion when someone like myself reacts to what he says in this vein.

Wichita is never more ridiculous than when he talks about "leftists" and "science" in the same context. He knows precious little about "leftists" or "science", so when he tries to connect "leftists" with "science," or "science" with "leftists," it's a double whammy. This same conversation broke out (so to speak) on another thread, just about 24 hours ago. Readers can opt to see what I said about this, the first time: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/...000494-30.html#p1182[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 11-06-2023).]
