MEM's Revenge - Devil Comet hurtling towards Earth (Page 1/2)

Beware the 'devil comet': Huge space rock three times the size of Mount Everest that is racing towards Earth has sprouted 'horns', scientists say

quote
When a cryovolcanic comet gets closer to the sun – like 12P/Pons-Brooks is doing now – it heats up and builds pressure in the nucleus.

The pressure continues to build until nitrogen and carbon monoxide explodes and flings out icy debris through large cracks in the nucleus's shell.

Sadly Bruce Willis will be unable to once again save earth.

12P/Pons-Brooks is set to come as close as 72.5 million miles (116.8 million km) to the sun on April 21 next year.

Following that, a close approach with Earth of 144 million miles (232 million km) will happen on June 2.

93M IS EARTH SUN

SO ABOUT 1 AND A HALF THE SOLAR DISTANCE

NOT EVEN A LIGHT SHOW

NEVER EVEN SHUFFLED
BUT

I do dislike doom and gloom for no good reasons

I think there is stuff up somewhere that can make it a bad day here

this ain't one of them this time maybe on a far future orbit
the out gasing of random push unknown can change the orbit a bit
just not 100 million miles

A review of data from more than a year ago has revealed that the Earth's high altitude ozone layer, which protects us and all other life from harmful ultraviolet energy from the sun, took a small but measurable "hit" from a gamma ray burst that emanated from a star that went supernova in a galaxy that is almost 2 billion light years distant from earth.

That's a long way from "here" even on the astronomical scale.

It's like a cosmic "Don't tase me, bro'..."

The small amount of ozone that was destroyed by the incoming gamma radiation was replenished by naturally occurring chemical reactions within just a few minutes of the event.

If a star in our own Milky Way galaxy went supernova and produced a gamma ray burst, and if the star's magnetic axis were aligned in such a way that one of the star's two magnetic poles were pointing directly towards the earth... that could be bad news for all the "life" enthusiasts on our planet.

A fully adult-sized great white shark, estimated at 16-feet from nose to tail, comes within sight of scuba divers who are close offshore near a popular beach destination on the island of Bali.

The incident sparks fears that these fabled "man eaters," known to favor habitats where the ocean waters are in the distinctly "chilly" 50 to 70 Fahrenheit temperature range, could be adapting to hunt the warmer tropical waters that attract so many beach-minded vacationers worldwide.

Discovery Channel, first aired on July 28.

Maybe they're adapting to global warming?

Yo' mam(b)a..!

No, I'm not talking about someone's mother wearing army boots. I'm talking about this:

"Deadly green mamba snake on the loose in Dutch city"

quote
A highly venomous snake is on the loose after escaping a [home terrarium] in Tilburg, the Netherlands on Monday afternoon, a municipality spokesperson told CNN on Wednesday.

Local authorities are warning people to keep their distance and avoid approaching the poisonous green mamba, which is between 1.8 and 2 meters (6 to 6.5 feet) long. . . .

The tropical snake has a fondness for warm, dark spaces, the spokesperson added, saying it is unlikely the runaway mamba has slithered out of its owner’s house to face the cold Dutch winter.

Published 10 days ago, so maybe it's already been recovered.

I just think, the way this forum thread came into being provides a good "vibe" for these kinds of reports. Potential disaster, albeit not on a planetary scale.

What do you think?
