Remember... representatives are most often, representative of the people they're representing.
I don't think ANYONE here actually believes this is a good idea... even the most liberal among us. But when you read things like this... there's usually two reasons for why someone makes a statement like this:
1 - They know better, but are hoping it will gain major support from ignorant voters, showing that he/she is "working for them." 2 - They actually don't know any better, and don't have the capacity to consider the long-term effects of something.
On the odd chance anyone here actually thinks this is a good idea... obvious, $50 dollars an hour for minimum wage would raise inflation costs and lead to massive lay-offs. It would utterly destroy the economy wherever it was enacted. If you were to do it at the Federal level, it would lead to wide-spread inflation the likes of which this country has never seen, even under Carter's administration.
It is important though that at least someone try it. These provide valuable lessons for well-meaning leftists on many of their ideas. Like "pay what you feel is right" stores... all of which make big waves when they announce an opening... and then get no press when they go out of business shortly after. Or the "Universal Basic Income" stories... where a city says they're going to do it, and it makes huge waves... and then you never hear about it when it fails. We need to remember these situations, and reflect on them... otherwise we keep making the same dumb decisions.

The sand pounders union has already negotiated for $75/hr in exchange for a new section of regulations which will make the Imperial Sand Dunes closed to recreational use.
