Breaking – Disney drops all lawsuits on condition that the new board agrees not to be mean:

Disney Reaches Settlement With DeSantis, District Board | The Epoch Times

Basically:
Disney agreed to drop the two lawsuits, both the Federal and state lawsuits. Disney “also agreed to concede that the eleventh-hour development agreement they made with the Reedy Creek Improvement District in a final attempt to retain its autonomy was null, void, and unenforceable.”

Concession:
Florida would drop the state’s counter-lawsuits, and would agree to “recognize Disney’s ownership of permits issued by [prior organizations], and would not impede on them.”

Basically, Florida agrees to let Disney continue to develop their land per agreements made previously without hassling them unnecessarily, and Disney concedes.

Sorry Ray... I think we all knew that Florida would win this fight.

I hate to poke you over this, but I seem to remember how you (and most of the media also) were so absolutely sure that DeSantis was going to get destroyed in court. I told everyone there was no legal standing for any of this, and that Disney shouldn't have even been allowed to do what they were doing since the state constitution was passed... but never the less, the media was so convinced Disney would win... based on absolutely nothing.

Let me fix that for you.

In a situation like this where neither side gets anything in the end you have to look at who started it to decide who the loser is.

Desantis started this war, so he is the loser. There is nothing more fascist than trying to use the power of the state to attack a business just over a cultural disagreement.

Disney pretty much got everything they wanted.

Since Disney owns more property and uses more resources than many cities it had its own governing tax district that allowed it to manage water and power and other issues like a municipality. DeSantis first tried to dissolve the district. That failed, so he appointed anti-Disney members to the district board. They specifically stated that they would oppose Disney's attempt to contract for more water needed for park expansion That was when Disney filed suit claiming that the government action against them was based on their exercise of free speech in opposing DeSantis so-called "Don't Say Gay" law.

Before this recent settlement DeSantis removed two key anti-Disney members from the board, and part of the settlement agreement bound the board to assist Disney in obtaining the water contracts they needed. And Disney did not have to dismis their pending federal lawsuit.

Both sides needed to end this and get back to making money for Florida. Sounds like both sides acted reasonably to settle it.
