I started that thread back at the end of 2019 as a compendium of docs, news and opinion articles regarding the government corruption and investigations that were just coming to light at that time.

The thread is somewhat of a “rabbit hole” of links, including a few other threads.

Given the revelations of the past few months (and those yet to come), I think it is worth revival, but I would rather see it moved to the adult (P&R) section so as to avoid the kind of flack it has already drawn.

If it gets moved to the trash can, this will serve as And So It Begins 2.0.

With the likelihood of a new administration in six months, much of this will again become pertinent.

I got to meet Mike Pinera a few times. He plays / played with a band called "Classic Rock All Stars" which was basically a group of classic rock 70s bands that got together and toured in smaller venues throughout the United States. They spent a LOT of time in Florida... I saw them in Davie at the Burgeron Rodeo Grounds, twice in Orlando, and once in Tampa. A few of the bands were Iron Butterlfy (of course), Sugarloaf (Jerry Corbata), Rare Earth (Peter Rivera), and the lead singer for Fine Young Cannibals (which I admit, I'd never heard of before). I always felt bad though... because like NO ONE wanted to talk to Jerry Corbata. He'd even joke about it... after the concert, everyone wanted to meet Mike Pinera or Peter Rivera. But damn, I liked Green Eyed Lady, and the keytar was bad-ass, so I always went up and talked to him too... but Rare Earth was my favorite out of that group.

That music is kind of before my time. I was born in 1978, so obviously it's a solid decade or two before my time. But I grew up with Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, and stuff like Bush and No Doubt (later when I was in high school). But once I was out on my own... I remember going to some Fiero meet, and there was this dude in his Fiero blasting some music that I'd never heard before. I was like... what is this? And the guy looked totally beat down and said... "Dude, this is Eddie Van Halen..." and I said, "I have no idea who that is, but it sounds awesome."

So my friend and I went to Peaches (which is now a Hustlers), and we bought some music on CD... including something from some dude named Jimmy Hendrix... whom I'd only heard of because there was a music video of him on my Atari Jaguar Video "Mix it Up" Video CD.

Man... we were blown away. There was so much awesome music... we started buying all these "Classic Rock" compendium CDs to listen to in my Fiero when we'd cruise the beach for girls. KC and the Sunshine Band, Led Zepplin, Boston, Def Leppard, Heart, the list goes on. And then there was my disco phase (don't hold it against me). And of course I also listened to classical music the entire time because I played in an orchestra. But whatever... you get the point.

Iron Butterfly is pretty cool. I asked Mike Pinera what he meant by "en a gadda davida, baby." and he said... "Well, I woke up one day and I had a really bad cold, and it didn't come out right." But the true story was he was high as a kite when he was trying to sing "In the garden of Eden," and it just came out that way... people liked it, and it stuck.

I was 13 years old and living in Ormond Beach when that song hit the airwaves. It was a big deal to those of us with Rock n Roll dreams and Daytona was an exciting place to be in the mid-late '60s.

A year earlier, I was living in Silver Spring, just outside the beltway and a year later, Phoenix.

Silver Springs... in Florida? They have that really cool park with the glass-bottom boat rides, and the place where they apparently filmed that old TV show about underwater sea missions... Seat Hunt or something.

Yeah, the music of that time was amazing. Obviously, not everything from the 60s was great... but there really was such good music. I've found that I can go as far back as the Baroque era of classical music, all the way up to say 2005... skipping of course about 70% of Country music, and 90% of rap music. It's probably just me... I fully accept that, but I can't like anything after 2005. I've tried, it just all sounds like crap to me. Some of the new Ozzy stuff is pretty good, but I don't know if that counts. I also like Dubstep (which I guess is now also like 5-6 years too old)... but I'm sure it's just age and being an old person and not liking new stuff.

There were several songs you made that I really liked... I book marked them somewhere in a text file, but for the life of me I can't remember where that is. Kinda pisses me off because there was one I REALLY liked in particular... and I can't remember the name.

Silver Spring, MD on the north side of DC.

We moved a lot, in the '60s. Five towns and three states in 10 years.

But I have ridden the glass bottom boats.

This was all investigated by John Durham.

What is "news"?

Yes! This is the one... it's awesome!!! Thank you.

Do you mind if I steal it for one of my daughter's videos? I think she'd get a huge kick out of the fact that it was music made by someone who owns a Fiero. Her Fiero belonged to a musician that drove the Fiero over 200k miles over the span of 35 years, traveling to different gigs... with the band equipment in tow. He played a mix of country / classic rock at various venues.

Edit: of course she'll properly attribute it to you (link to the YouTube channel) and say at the bottom of the video, "Kaibab - By a fellow Fiero Owner"

I would be honored. The original .flac file is 29.4MB. I can give you a copy, but my email has a 25MB limit. I don't run an FTP server anymore, but if you know another way, let me know. I think I can send you a link to the file on "google drive".

Also, have you heard this morning's breaking news?

I just got back in from my morning bicycle ride, but if I heard right, IT IS BIG!
