I'm not comfortable with it being quiet in here.. Is something about to explode or implode and I didn't get the word?
Are there fingers on the trigger?

Is that a 50 cal off a Huey? Pretty cool... it must have been pretty miserable at times there, always hot and sweaty. Were you deployed there during the summer, or during the winter?


When we traveled around Afghanistan, the agency had two private means of transportation, so I'd fly some of my colleagues from US-FOR-A to perform staff assisted visits, and inspections. We traveled on some small unmarked plane that was built in the late 1970s. All of the gauges had been ripped out, and were replaced with two touch-screens. And then going back and forth between Bagram and the various sites within Kabul, we used two Hueys that traveled in pairs (I guess in case one had issues or crashed, the other one could save our asses). All of it was eventually abandoned in Afghanistan of course.






I am super uncomfortable in the second picture because I had to borrow a helmet that didn't fit... I left mine at my CHU in Bagram because I didn't know I'd have to fly out later that morning. The Hueys were amazing... like riding on a cloud. Only a couple of times was the air choppy... totally unlike any other helicopter I've ever been in before. Just the smoothest ride I think I've ever had...

Sigh... I think a lot of people are upset with her loss, and feel she was cheated out of her win, especially since she's still younger. But it's not for everyone... she was already VP, isn't that enough? I'm torn... one side of me thinks she'll never win that race (GOV of CA), and other side of me thinks she will, and she'll completely make it worse (let's be honest here). And then you'll have the slew of "Thank God she isn't running the country..."

I took it from my gun station on a CH-53. There is no winter in Vietnam. There is the dry season and monsoon. Monsoon season varies but usually comes about the same time as near end of typhoon season, which is now.

I rode lots of civilian Hueys. Not impressed with the ride, speed or handling.

How are they different from the military ones? Are they faster? I don't know what these were... but I assume these were civilian? They were old as **** , I'll tell you that... they'd been painted over a few times it seems.

What I meant was, the Hueys were so much slower, and rougher 'riding' than the Ch53s. A 53D was a true 200MPH helo with cruise speed of 175mph at sea level. A Huey flew around 135MPH and was rough in the air. . AH1J was better at matching the 53's speed, which meant they didn't have to leave early to arrive at a hot lz the same time the transports did.
The civvie hueys were a little quieter than the RVN UH1s but not by much.

No experience with the CH53 so, I can't say much. I do recognize they were heavy haulers and pretty fast. Fastest birds I flew were the AH-1s. Stripped down, they could haul ass. Loaded down with munitions, about the same as a UH-1.

Reference Harris and CA, I have no vote in who they choose but, I really do hope they figure out what and who a loser is.
