Who does PROM chip tuning? (Page 1/2)
AL87 JAN 30, 08:31 PM
I have removed my egr system and dont want the code to flash.
and I want my idle to be lower.

sometime later I want to have one tuned for a cam as well.

for those of you who do tuning, how much would this run me?

well for the first part, i believe phonedawgs does the tune for deleting the EGR and lowering the idle he is very reasonable just check out his site. Sorry can't remember his site. For anything else you need to look up Ryan at Sinister Performance. I'm sure other people know other tuners tho.

right now I have a 2.8 V6 bored .030" with a comp 252, ported heads, intake, and exhaust going into an '86 GT.

I opted for a slight increase in power and torque over stock, with the nice bump in breathability for a reliable daily driver.

I forgot what the egr trouble code means, wether the computer tries to change the tune to compensate or not. and if it affects fuel mileage.

Also wanting the warm idle rpm to drop from around 1k to 800 to save gas in town while sitting in traffic at lights...

I can delete the EGR and set the warm idle wherever you want it.

When the ECM calls for the EGR to be activated, it also advances the timing and adjust the mixture. When the ECM calls for the EGR to be activated, it sends a signal to the EGR control valve. There is also a vacuum switch to detect if the EGR control valve did what is was supposed to.

Deleting the EGR programming from the chip will also keep you from having the code 32 problem.

I can do the above changes, however I am not a tuner.

you have a PM.

I'm finally getting around to doing this. I was going to get a Fiero store ecm aldl usb scan tool. but I think 114 plus shipping is a bit extravagant compared to your setup online, and I even found you on ebay!

I'll have a few questions for you that I look forward to a response from. I believe they are pretty basic. I want to get to understand and dabble with my prom.

I want to get rid of my EGR too because I'm getting the code even with it installed, and I don't feel like diagnosing it.

Before deleting EGR, just recognize that if you have emission testing, your car will likely fail on NOX with it deleted.
(There a lots of ways to get around that, from temporarily retarding timing, to adding solvents to your gas.)
Just be aware.

In West By God Virginia they don't care about the environment, so I'm good on emisions. No cat, no EGR, no problem.

The hyperlink from the original quote was dead. So I added the link from his current front page. Hopefully he's still doing his thing. He was pretty good.
