OK, had a thought about this this morning as I was waking up -

With all this talk about splicing a couple of new hoses together, I got to thinking - take off the old hose, find the leak, cut the hose circumferentially at the leak (assuming it's not a longitudinal split), splice the hose back together using the same things I'd need to splice two new hoses together anyway, reinstall on the car.

Will give this a shot once I can get outside to get the hose off the car and inspect it - right now, there's near-freezing rain washing away the week of snow we've had - not the best weather for doing driveway mechanical work.

If a hose is leaking from something punching/rubbing a hole might be ok.
If hose is bad from bad/weak coolant etc then this is Not a good idea. The hose can, very likely will, blow again soon.

Bad hose then very likely all need replacement because any iffy hose can blow out too.

Coolant can short out electrical system.
Iffy Grounds can cause Coolant system problems.

looks like combining these two should get you there after you cut them down to meet, and use a piece of pipe,to join them..

Thanks for the words of advice, gentlemen - will get the old one off the car and go from there.

Didn't know if someone already had a solution to this difficulty - it appears there hasn't been an already-found solution. Will post my findings and solution as I get there.

You could after you get it out,, take a photo of it, with a tape measure beside one part of the hose so one has something to use for scale..
and send an email to gates and dayco..
They might just make it..

This post stopped 3 yrs ago, I've got the same problem now. What did you guys end up doing? I've got a fresh set of take offs in good condition for patterns for someone to use as patterns. I see Rodney was interested in 2013, I emailed w him last week and it seems he is not interested anymore.
Any solutions?

I know its been 2 years since last reply but thought I'd post this having just been through this.
my 88 4cyl lost this coolant hose and I found that a gates #23729 worked for me. just had to
trim the 90 degree down a bit and cut the other side to fit. my car is a standard, not sure if it
would work on an automatic.
