The power is good but the looks it gets when the deck lid is up makes it a cool swap. BUT when people yell at you "what do you got in that thing?" at stop lights....THAT is why I did the swap. I chose to do my swap without mufflers. I can put a system in it, but I don't think it is all that loud. It used to set off car alarms when I started it. After putting a "glasspack" on it, it does not set off alarms.

I am thinking LS1, I can fab mounts, and do any cradle mods with my skillset, what I am not able to do is all the custom machine work to make adapter plates, or the water pump adapters So I want an LS1 to F40 setup, meaning, adapter, clutch, flywheel throwout bearing. I think I'd like to get all I can from Fieroguru, and then V8 Archie, or WCF. Some of the stuff is really expensive, so I'll have to see. I am guessing the adapters aren't sold used very often, huh?

Rick, do you know what equipment I would need to smog as say, a 2000 T/A with 6spd?
I'm not sure where to look.

This place is really cool, all the helpful people and advice given, and pictures and documentation is awesome. I just donated 20.00 to Cliff today too. Thanks everyone..

This is a loaded question. Even tho I have a good idea what you need, the ultimate says is the ref that you take it to. California has some vague guidelines on the website that is setup to layout guidelines.
So it basically requires you to take (for example) an LS1 right out of the donor car as is, no changes to the intake or exhaust systems and put it in the car. So by the letter of the law, this is impossible, and they know it. So they do allow some bending g of the rules such as the exhaust system. You will need all cats in place with stock manifolds, can't happen like that. Call your local ref and see if they will have time to discuss the swap with you.

Nevada registration sounds like a better idea but if you get a ticket in CA and a few months later another one you will be forced to register in CA unless you can prove you don't live there and that the car spends most of it's time out of state. The best option would be to just move somewhere better ;-)

Just a thought... if you want a V8 fiero with manual transmission in CA, you might be able to get a Northstar / Aurora V8 as Shelby sold the 'Series 1' in such a configuration.

Good luck with those exhaust manifolds and catalysts.

Well, I haven't gotten a ticket in a long time, so hopefully I can keep up that streak, and that won't be an issue. I have a really great job, making good money, and can retire in 8 years. Moving is not an option at this time, besides I grew up down the street from where I live now, love the weather, neighborhood, and my house. My wife also grew up here.
I just don't like the high cost of everything, including taxes, and registration, and the smog and gun laws of this state. We'll see how I feel when I am closer to retirement.

I started another thread, talking about my upcoming donor car, if someone wants to combine these 2 together, feel free, I am not the tech/I.T. guy.

Well, I finally brought it home saturday morning, in all it's non-running glory, the more I look at it, the more issues I see that need fixing, there are several cracks in the hood, and a couple around the roof, the driver's door has to be opened from the inside, the driver's window has a HUGE gap at the back, the whole nose sags if you look at the body line down the side. All in all, STILL AWESOME! at least to me. Isn't that what counts?
I PMed Rick today and he replied fast, I also found a PM from Eric, here in the Bay Area, I replied today, sorry for the month plus delay, I never saw it.
Thanks Guys, for the time given to communicate.
I don't expect this build to even start until next year, I may devote a few hours to getting the car running like it is, but I have a LOT, I MEAN S**T-TON of projects to do before this is really worked on.
I thought it was an 88 before, but discovered it is an 85 GT, has a 2.8, auto, and power windows, i think it has A/C and maybe cruise control. It hasn't been on the road(at least legally) since 05 .

The future plans for this car are as follows.
88 rear cradle with an aluminum LS V8, better brakes, Coilovers, and lowering, with way wider rear wheels/tires (look at that kinda wide-body quarter).

I have not decided yet whether to go LS4/4T65E, or LS4/F40, or LS1 or LS2, with the Archie adapter and F40, I could even do the L33(Aluminum truck 5.3) Or I could de-stroke an LS4 with a 3.3 stroke crank(4.8 liter stroke) and make a 9000 RPM ripper with forged parts. The possibilities are endless, Is there anyone who has done the Archie LS conversion, so I can learn how it went?
The kit is expensive, but the custom LS flywheel for the LS4/F40 isn't super cheap either. To get it to pass smog here in Lovely California, I would have to use an auto with the LS4, or use another LS from a manual vehicle, and use all the emissions equip, computer etc from the same car, I could maybe pass off the LS4 block for an LS1 or LS2 and do the manual that way.
I have an 88 donor car coming with a manual, and no engine, so I'll have a stock set of manual pedals. I may also have another 85 manual car coming with no engine or transmission, that will most likely be for sale pretty quick, I will make sure anything I need for my kit car comes off it first though.
