Grab the axle next to the bearing and push/pull. If the axle moves more than .050" or so, the bearing is bad. Be sure to find the most expensive bearing you can buy....made in USA or Germany. I needed to get this done years ago and no trouble since.

I have another question for you all. When I split the case to do the differential bearings, I assume there is a chance I have worn something else out by having these bearing go bad. Does anyone have info on what to check for wear as well as how to check for wear?

Also is there a good writup on how to replace the bearing? I am comfortable splitting the case but I am not sure where to go from there. Do I need to remove the final drive gear to get access to the bearing?

I found this text from I believe rodney dickmn. Does anyone know how much play in the other axle is too much play? I have this clunk noise but want to ensure it is from the diff bearings before I do all of this work
