Stiffer front suspension question - tires rubbing with drop spindles (Page 2/4)
ragoldsmith DEC 03, 06:40 PM
Here is the front stance. I didn’t have time to pull the spring. I spent waaaay too long at the DMV today. It does have the corvette brake upgrade (c5 up front, c4 in the rear). I forgot to mention that before. Obviously pulling tire, etc off will give a lot more info. Hopefully tomorrow. L

Edit: Hard braking makes both tires rub every time.

No surprise.
Have little clearance and car weight shifts to front during braking.

Tires and everything they hit will wear every time you brake hard etc. I'll be surprise if car doesn't have holes in upper inner fenders already because Doesn't take much to dig thru Poly Polypropylene panels.

If true, "easy fix" is get smaller tires to drive locally.
Tirerack alt sizes might fit big F rotors... 205/55-16 215/45-17 depending on rim used w/ them.
this sizes are close to OE total diameter to help speedo etc to see right data.

But Run OE size like 205/60-15 and that 18" at miata.net.
May seem a lot bigger then really is and getting small tires may not help much.

Changing springs and/or shocks may not help much either.

This is what I did on my 88 without the drop spindles. I got my hands on a set of pre88 front springs that I cut to hight in front. I then used the 88GT front springs in the rear, cut to hight. As far as I can tell the car looks and feels great.

I had the same problem with drop spindles on my car and needed to raise it up a bit.
At the time, Raybestos was still making springs and the catalog had dimensional data.

Fierosound, thank you! This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I will look into the Chevette spring option. Still planning on pulling the current springs and getting measurements.

I developed an anti-dive kit that raises the front end 1", but keeps the car MUCH more level and dramatically reduces front suspension compression under braking.

What years does your anti dive fit? 84-87 or 88?

Will that sounds perfect. I’ll send a PM.

I pulled the front drivers side tire off. I attached pictures of what I found. Definitely a lot of damage to the inner fender and wheel well covers. I can’t tell much about the springs. I’m not going to attempt to remove them until I have Rodney’s ball joint separator (already ordered and on the way).

It fits 84-87 front suspension. That system actually has PRO-dive from the factory, so it dives even more than it should based on weight transfer.

The '88 front suspension is much better and does not need additional anti-dive NEARLY as much.
