Excellent clarification ogre, thanks

All great info.

I thought the gauge wasn’t reacting at all when I started the car/turned key on. It does raise just a little.

I was under the impression grounding the wire to the gauge as I did at the sender should max the gauge out.

I ordered a replacement sender gauge but I can’t seem to buy the correct gauge. This is the 2nd time I have ordered the wrong part.

I’ll do some testing on the sender if I can t find a replacement as free time is in short supply With a toddler.

Many auto parts stores have this part confused with the sensor for the computer.

Try Napa

Don’t use sealant or Teflon tape on the threads like the picture above indicates.
Be sure to clean the threads on your block with a pick. You need metal on metal good contact.

Thanks. I ordered one from rock auto that looked like the plug but when I received it’s not like either.

Here is what I ordered. They sent me a different one. It looks like it’s the correct part. I’ll email them to get it replaced.

Hopefully you’ll get the right one. Otherwise, there oughta be a Napa near by.

Always buy car parts locally.

They need the business, they employ people from your area, and pay wages and taxes in your area.

And the likelihood of getting the wrong part is much less.

Always buy car parts.from local vendors!

My Napa franchise is the worst I wouldn’t give them any of my money.

I tried to buy locally but they all where confused.

Yeah, it's a crapshoot. I'm lucky in that, in my mid-size town, I have an O'Reilly, an Autozone, and a local chain all literally within two blocks of each other, plus a NAPA like two miles from that. Depending on what I need (and what they have on hand), somebody usually has / can get what I need.

Regardless, like you did with your pix above, I find it handy to do my homework in advance and come in with a picture or a part number and show them "I need this." Keeps the stupid to a minimum.

Failing that, yeah, for everything else there's RockAuto (and Amazon and fleabay and...)
