Alright so that thing is an aftermarket Tach Filter. Interesting.
I drove the car today, but not long enough for the problem to appear. However, out of curiosity I did an experiment where I shut the car off and quickly ran around to poke the check valve on the fuel rail to see how the pressure dropped. It release some fuel, but not much. It had a very mild froth that came up for about a second and that's it. No spraying or anything like a great amount of pressure was relieved. If these are supposed to run around 44psi or something, I would not have expected the fuel pressure to drop so rapidly, either that or my little test was done in utter foolishness and meant nothing.
When the car is running it sprays quite up like a geyser (as expected), but it drops to almost nothing when the key is off. I figured it would hold pressure at least a few seconds.
Anyways, I have ordered a new fuel pump. It wouldn't hurt to put a new one in it regardless.[This message has been edited by Jeffdylanproctor (edited 06-29-2023).]

I drove the car 20 mins, it cooled for about 20, and I drove it home for another 20. No sputtering issue. But I know (I can feel it out there in the garage designing itself against me) that if I drive the 40 miles to work tomorrow it's gonna start its fit after 30 minutes of solid driving and then get progressively worse till it cools all the way down.
The MAP sensor and the Fuel Pressure Regulator share a common vacuum line, could they have something to do with this? I've not figured out how the opening and closing of the Fuel Pressure Regulator works in relation to the whole engine operation.[This message has been edited by Jeffdylanproctor (edited 06-29-2023).]

My thought too is it being a fuel delivery problem. There's an OBD1 scan tool / ECM reader that I was looking for... the Fiero Store used to sell them. It would basically data log everything from your car's ECM into your laptop. I'm not seeing it now... but it would be able to tell you if your car started running lean or... really... what is happening at the point of the engine shutting off.
I don't think it would really be a vacuum problem because that normally causes bucking in most cases. I do still think it's fuel. Does it fail while you're just cruising, or when you begin accelerating again? Like... does it happen when the car is just in cruise?

It generally happens when cruising as most of my drive is cruising, but I am fairly certain it has happened under light acceleration. I don't know what ritual is needed to force the problem to appear, other than drive it for about 30 miles constantly.
Finding a device that could plug in and log ECM data would be awesome.
Edit: you certaintly can't accelerate once the sputtering begins, and it seems that it will sputter for about 10 seconds or so before it gives out. ButI usually just push in the clutch, shut it off, and in ten seconds or so it will run again.[This message has been edited by Jeffdylanproctor (edited 06-30-2023).]

Update: A put a new fuel pump, fuel filter and ignition coil in it 4 days ago and the problem has not come back sense, and twice now I have drove it for a long distance. I believe the issue was the fuel pump getting hot and giving out or something to that effect, as it starts much faster now and runs smooth.
