Awesome!!!

But do NOT have the engine hauled off yet! Keep the engine until you have the new one installed and in the car. Trust me... you do not want to throw that engine away. You have no idea what parts you may still need from that motor. There's little things still bolted on it that you'll probably still want. Put the car back together first, and then get rid of all that stuff. You maybe also want to donate the engine to someone on here rather than pay someone to haul it.

What year did you say you had again? If you've got an 84 or an early 85, get a late 85 or 86 model engine so that you can use the newer block that has the roller cam and the newer harmonic balancer. Everything else bolts up to it.

God damn it...
Now you are making me try to remember stuff.

There are 10 bolts that hold the head on to the block.
One of the corner bolts was moved about 1/4" somewhere over the years.

I cant remember why, but I know it caused a problem with replacement engines.

EDIT
It might have been to make sure you didn't put the wrong head on the wrong block.

We're talking about 35 years ago people. My memory is not that good anymore.

Years back I knew a guy who removed both the L4 and V6 engines from the top. I have no idea how he did it but he did mention unbolting the engines from the transmission.

Pulling from the top is easy especially auto trans, dont let anyone tell you anything different! I have pulled several with no issues!
