987 Seat Swap (Page 2/3)
rbell2915 OCT 16, 11:13 PM
After work a welder came to the house and welded the tracks to the seats. The first seat we tack welded, made sure it fit, and then he finished the weld. On the second seat, he just welded it immediately and luckily it was able to fit right on with no adjustments.

One issue we'd have is the seat track doesn't want to slide backwards after being slide forwards, because some part of the seat tracks is interfering with the seatbelt retaining bolt. For now, the seats won't be moving forward which is fine because they never get adjusted and I like having them perfectly even.
The seats fit great, there is so much more support and bolstering, and it's really nice having a power recline function. For now, I used a battery to put the seat into the position that I like and later this week or on the weekend I'll hook the seats up to the car. I would say the project is finished.

Thanks. Got pics of your seats? I might be able to ID them. And you're looking at 35.25" from the ass of the seat straight up to the front lip of the sunroof hole.

By the way I am 72".

I hooked the seats up to battery power and ground to wrap the project up and come to find out, the seats are heated, which is a real nice plus! Although, I now need to take the seats back out of the car to figure out the wiring between the seat motor and the heating elements so I can install a switch for the heating elements and to make sure they aren't running 24/7 because that will drain the battery or cause other problems if the wires aren't thick enough. I'm not sure what wires the seats' previous owners were messing with so I'll need to do some exploration and research to figure out what exactly is going on with this. I'll also make a slit in the carpet as well for the wires to come out of so everything is hidden. Just when you think it's over, it's not...

They look great!

And yeah... the "mystery bun warmers". Good find, all around.

Those look like Sunfire/Cavalier seats. Seats seem pretty comparable, only about 1/2 inch difference to the ceiling.

if anything the 987 seats are actually lower, which would be a good thing for me. im about 73.5" myself, so headspace is very close. sometimes i touch on a large bump on the road haha

doesn't appear to be more than 2 987 seats in the whole of michigan on car-part, but if i ever see some i will definitely give them a sit test.

C4 seats also work well for me and I installed a set of them in one of my Meras. Good fit and adequate fro me at 6' 2" and 225 pounds.
