What do you suppose is going on here? (Page 2/2)

Unless some of the plastic bits of the switch are broken, it is not hard to disassemble and clean any and all of the pedal switches.
They all use metal contacts, one side is fixed in the housing, the moving part is folded metal strip that can be spread, and all of the surfaces can be deoxidized mechanically or chemically.

I learned to drive on a car that didn't have a clutch switch.
All 3 of my Fieros have that switch bypassed.

Well my linkage arm is what is breaking, but I see a way to fix that with the s10 switch, thanks!

From your original picture it appears that your clutch switch is already on the pedal, it might be non functional though, the reason that the contacts are bridged.

There are likely other way to replace this switch but note that Starter Solenoid pulls 30 to 40 Amps @ 12VDC.

Amp Rating on nearly all switches & relays you get even from auto parts outlets is only for AC & burn fast @ 1/2 or way less below the rating on a DC circuit. More so controlling motors & other inductive loads.

Even when you push the pedal then turn the key often fails w/ "weak" switches. Faster if you push or release the pedal w/ key in Start.

I never attempt to start a manual vehicle without pushing the clutch in…..safety switch or no switch. It should always be a habit…even if you think its in neutral.

did this when I went converted a manual car to an auto car.
