There are a few reasons. The springs can be somewhat inadequate even when fully adjusted depending on what you add. I added 5 inch wingstands to my factory setup and the decklid rising is signifiantly slower (and comes down FAR to easily).
They also break.[This message has been edited by GodSend (edited 05-23-2024).]

Guys, I know you might not agree, but Rodney's deck-lid strut kit was intended for those with broken torsion rods. But, another good thought on this is the stock design like Jelly2m8 says is true, but if the deck-lid is brought by wind or accidentally popped open, it can seriously do damage or give a hit or jolt to the hinges.
Those that don't have Rodney's strut kit will understand if they see one, the deck-lid with his kit installed won't go to full travel (back) like the stock deck-lid travel. I'd say there is about 1" less travel. Which is good, plus you have extra support incase this happens. (the deck-lid accidentally whiplashes on you)
I have the dual strut kit on my 88GT, and it is more secure when open and closing it.
And when open on windy days, that deck-lid won't even move. (with Rodney's kit)
