"Mike, "short ride" is a relative term. Even if I wanted to go for a trek down to Oregon, I couldn't. Don't currently have paperwork to cross into the US. Can't say I miss dealing with border agents in either country."

Yeah, I know but you're closer than me...

I hear you about crossing the border. I've two passports - US & AU _ and it feels like every other crossing I get stopped and picked out for special attention.

I got plenty tired of being treated like I was smuggling guns and/or drugs when I was crossing the border. The worst experience I had was when I was bringing a Fiero across the border into Canada on a trailer. I had all the required paperwork, but of course, I was sent inside (of US Customs, as I was still on the American side of the border.) What I wasn't expecting though, was the woman who was in charge, standing before me with her arms folded across her chest, and her looking me straight in the eye and saying very deliberately... "Tell me what you're really up to". Wouldn't have been the best time to tell someone to eff off, and I didn't... but I sure felt like it!

Haha, I cross the border so often the guards know my name, address, etc. for filling out the form when I go and pay taxes on US goods haha! The 3rd and last Fiero owner in the area is a border guard. The dozen or so times they've searched me (always on the Canadian side, never even been delayed going into the US) they always comment on the engine in the back, and wonder why I have a (small) Pepsi bottle of oil and a Pepsi bottle of coolant haha.

Because gas is so much cheaper in the States, whenever I crossed the border, I always took a large gas can with me to fill up. One time when returning to Canada, and being asked to park for a search, the border agent opened my trunk, pointed to the gas can, and asked... "What's in there?" I wanted to say... "What the hell do you think is in a gas can?"... but I didn't. I simply responded... "Gasoline." However, he was on to me. He knew it was full of guns and drugs. So he unscrewed the cap and took a deep sniff. Maybe he simply enjoyed getting stoned on gas fumes.
