Big Brakes and compatiable spare tire choices (Page 1/3)

OK, Im going to start my Big Brake upgrade (87 gt with vette rotors and using 88 calipers)

My question is there any factory 5x100 spares from other cars that will clear the calipers and fit in the front compartment either inflated or deflated---

I know that WCF mods factory spare rims, just want to try and find one in the local bone yard

I had a 16" donut from a Subaru - with some creative cutting of the front plastic piece the spare fit;

I have the LeBaron 11.25" brake rotor upgrade on my 87 GT.

I got a Subaru Forester SUV spare wheel - 16" on 5x100 at Pick n Pull.
Fits, but center whole need to be enlarged slightly.
I just ran a Dremmel grinder round and round to do this.

The Subaru wheel came with a T135/70/16 tire - too big for the Fiero's wheel tub.

I ordered a new Firestone T115/70/16 that fits the Fiero wheel tub perfectly.
('96 Subaru Legacy car supposedly comes with T115/70/16)

Some Mazdas also have this size of spare tire, but you'd need a Subaru wheel.

Some newer cars have the 17" and 18" spare wheel.

These are 5x100 wheels but I don't know how they fit the Fiero.
Also, I expect the tires to be too big for the Fiero spare tire tub.

I know the price is a lot more, but you could look at run-flat tires and ditch the spare.

Or you could get a kit that contains SLIME and an air pump to fix minor issues... not really that helpful, but an option.

Thanks guys,I have used the slime and it works real well...gonna check into the suburu spare and see if that would work..with a smaller diameter tire..

if anyone else has any suggestions please let me know, gonna check my local pull a parts and boneyards this weekend

thanks again

If you can find a 17" 5x100 spare wheel, there is a tire that should fit the tub.

I did the same thing as fierosound. I got a Subaru spare wheel that was 16" on 5x100 at Pick n Pull.
I cut out the center hole to fit the fiero diameter. It barely fits under the weatherstripping with the hood closed but it works fine. I also have an optima red top up front and the tire actually provides decent support for the battery over the top.

I have the 12 inch vette rotors with the 88 calipers on an 88GT.
