E-brake handle question (Page 1/2)
Matthew_Fiero SEP 05, 11:09 PM
Hello everyone,

I was just getting ready to insure my Fiero when during my pre-drive test I noticed my e-brake handle wasn't doing the click-click motion when disengaging the parking brake.

Is there something wrong in this picture? What would prevent what I'm pointing to from fully engaging the gear teeth?

The tooth I am pointing to is free spinning and doesn't appear to be connected to anything.

Thank you,

Matthew

I haven't taken one apart before, but I can see a small spring (the end is shown in green below) in the picture that looks like it isn't connected properly. Once it is connected, that should stop that piece from freely rotating, and it will mesh with the teeth.

(...of course I could be completely out to lunch.... )

No, I think your on to something Jason. I'm just not sure if it's that end of the spring or the other but with it the way it is it doesn't appear to giving any tension. Of course I never took my e-brake handle apart. I just sprayed the heck out of it with PB Blaster until I was able to get it adjusted and functioning under the trunk area.

small silver metal triangle part is hosed.
From memory that part's slotted to meet w/ ratchet arm. The spring is just unloaded because of bad part.

You likely need a need level assembly. Should not fix a dead one.

I agree. I messed around with the spring for almost an hour and that triangle piece looks damaged.

I was just about to insure her yesterday too. Oh well, that's Fiero life I suppose.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Her's a pic of a good one from elsewhere on the forum:

Anything I might say is probably worth what you paid for it, so treat it accordingly!

Where would you even buy a new/rebuilt e-brake handle assembly?

It might be salvageable if you can weld. There is a hole in the triangle piece that is apparently from other provided pics supposed to be connected to the pushed out nub on the tooth part that engages the notches. If you can rotate the silver triangle part back and line those 2 up, a spot weld there in the hole to the nub might fix it.

I did a similar fix with mine. I also beefed it up since it will bend if you yank a little too hard on the handle. Been working great ever since.

Awesome Tebailey! I don't know if I have you at a + already, I think I do, but if not that will be rectified shortly .
